STRIDE-Affiliated Students Win ITS 2015 Florida Scholarships
Two STRIDE-affiliated Ph.D. students were awarded the 2015 ITS Florida Anne Brewer Scholarship from ITS Florida: Homa Fartash and Shahadat Iqbal.
Homa Fartash, a Ph.D. candidate in transportation engineering at Florida International University, is working on a funded research project titled as “Guidelines for the Evaluation of Ramp Signaling Deployments in a Real-Time Operations Environment” under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Hadi. Homa is currently serving as the vice president of the FIU ITE student chapter and she is a member of WTS International (Women’s Transportation Seminar). In addition to the Anne Brewer Scholarship, she also has wond the Sanchez Grand Prix Scholarship, the South Florida WTS Travel Award and was a runner-up of the Florida Section ITE Poster Competition. Winners are chosen by their demonstrated interest in the transportation industry as a career, academic achievement, essay content and quality, need for financial assistance, and involvement in extracurricular citizenship and leadership activities.
Shahadat Iqbal, a doctoral candidate in Civil Engineering at Florida International University, is working as a graduate research assistant in the Lehman Center for Transportation Research at FIU with the research team of Dr. Mohammed Hadi. His focus research areas are ITS, connected vehicle, traffic simulation, travel demand modeling, and big-data analyst. He has several publication including one from Transportation Research Part C.
The ITS Florida Scholarship issues a cash scholarship to further academic development, as well as a stipend to attend an approved ITS Florida event. Winners are chosen by their demonstrated interest in the transportation industry as a career, academic achievement, essay content and quality, need for financial assistance, and involvement in extracurricular citizenship and leadership activities.
